When you visit an antique car and truck show you will get to see cars and trucks that were built a hundred years ago and which will give you a firsthand view of how the automobile pioneers adapted crude and untested steam technologies to make contraptions on four wheels move at what were in those days very fast speeds.

In fact, as early as in the year 1910 there were as many as five hundred different companies that were engaged in manufacturing and developing outstanding antique cars and trucks. Following the Great Depression in the year 1929 only sixty of these survived and in another decade or so the numbers shrank to about twenty.

All this goes to show that there is much to enjoy at an antique car and truck show as can be seen in that fact that some of the antique cars of those times were actually put together in backyards as well as in barns and these automobiles contained plenty of wood and less steel. It is really interesting to also note the prices of those early automobiles and in fact the Ford Model T could have had a purchase price of just three hundred dollars which is the reason why the automobile became so popular as most people could afford to pay this much money to purchase an automobile.

An antique car show and swap show such as the 43rd Annual Bennington Car Show & Swap meet that is to be held in September, 2009 is well worth a visit. It is a show that has been sponsored by Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce along with Bennington Rotary and also the Green Mountain Car Club.
